Climbing and surfing in Fuerteventura

Climbing and surfing in Fuerteventura
The picturesque palm canyon Buen Paso in Fuerteventura is also a climbing area

Climbing is a great sport. It trains coordination, strengthens the whole body and of course a good portion of action, adrenaline and adventure is guaranteed. Reads like a description of surfing? Why not combine both sports?

Hello surfers,
have you ever been climbing?
I admit that I am even more active in this sport. As a native of Berlin, there are few natural exercise areas. That's why I started climbing in a climbing hall in Berlin.

Together with my brother we made a security certificate and for a while our climbing meetings were an exciting weekly ritual.

Climbing as surf training

You will ask yourself: "What does he do in a climbing hall in Berlin when he writes all the time about surfing in Fuerteventura?"
Yes, I was "landlocked" for a while. That's what we call surfers phases in our lives that we don't spend by the sea.

I was looking for a sport where I meet relaxed people, so when it’s not going to be quick-fucker, bald, low-lying contemporaries. A sport where I get a full body workout that trains my coordination and at the same time I release a little adrenaline.

On a joint bar evening, my brother explained that my search profile was perfect for climbing and that is why he wanted to start with it. So we quickly became a climbing partner, because a second person is always needed to secure the climber.

Climbing in Fuerteventura

Now there are many people who, like me, did not grow up in a part of Germany where the highest elevations are anything at 100 meters high.

For many, the sporty profile of climbing, paired with the experience of nature and the combination of strength, coordination and concentration, has become a passion similar to that for us water sports enthusiasts, surfing.

Here in Fuerteventura the mountains are significantly higher than in Berlin, although not as high as in the Alps.
However, the volcanic rock is actually too unstable and sharp-edged to climb. That is why there are few climbers in Fuerteventura.

What many do not know, there is a great climbing area in Fuerteventura. The palm canyon of Buen Paso is ideal for climbing. Some of the other climbers have hooks in the wall.
The Buen Paso Gorge is one of the most famous sights in Fuerteventura and has served as a backdrop for several Hollywood films, for example in Ridley Scott's Moses film and the Marvel film The Eternals.

Conclusion

The sporting profiles of climbing and surfing are very similar, which is why climbing is a great training for surfers who are “landlocked”.
There is also a very nice climbing area in Fuerteventura, which is hardly known to many people, although it already served as a backdrop for Hollywood movies.
