Germany and other EU countries have lifted their travel warnings for the Canaries, how is life in Fuerteventura at the moment.

Hello surfer,

It's been a week since the German travel warning was lifted. In addition to Germany, some other EU countries have lifted their travel warnings for the Canary Islands or made travel easier for their citizens again.

Nevertheless, there are of course some unanswered questions before a trip to Fuerteventura. Because although the number of infected people is steadily declining in the Canary Islands and the 7-day incidence of new infections with the Corona Virus per 100,000 inhabitants in the Canaries is below 40 and on Fuerteventura sometimes even below 10, there are still measures to contain the pandemic.

Here are probably the most important questions for most holidays when planning a holiday in Fuerteventura:

Is it possible to go on holiday in Fuerteventura at the moment?

Naturally!
There were border closings in the first three months of the pandemic only last year (2020). Since July 1, 2020, it has been possible to travel to Spain normally for a year.

We had and have nice guests here in our courses and accommodations in autumn 2020, winter 2021 and also now in spring.
Our surf school and accommodations are also open now and we are running surf courses this week as well.

For our guests, by and large, nothing changes in the implementation of the course. Of course, we adhere to the regulations on disinfection and safety distances. But since we are outdoors most of the time in sun and wind and rarely in closed rooms, nature and the weather do a lot :)

Are the restaurants and shops open in Fuerteventura?

The restaurants and shops in Fuerteventura were and are open!
Almost all restaurants and cafes here in Fuerteventura have an outside area. Of course, the rules on hygiene and distance also apply on the terraces of the restaurants.

It may be the case that the interior areas of individual restaurants remain closed. But theoretically the indoor areas of restaurants and bars are open to a limited number of people here on Fuerteventura.
Most restaurant visitors on Fuerteventura want to sit outside in the sun in the evening anyway!

In the shops (as well as in all public indoor areas) it is mandatory to wear a mask and you have to disinfect your hands when entering. There are restrictions on how many people can enter shops at the same time. Therefore, it can sometimes be the case that you have to wait briefly in front of the store before you can enter.

Where do I have to wear a mask in Fuerteventura?

First of all, here are all the places where I do NOT have to wear a mask in Fuerteventura:
• On the beach and of course not while bathing, swimming or surfing.
• During sports such as jogging, cycling, climbing, sakteboarding, volleyball and much more.
• Outside built-up areas, for example when exploring the wild west coast of La Pared by mountain bike or going on a hike.

A mask must STILL be worn in this place on Fuerteventura. At the moment there is a debate in Spain about easing the mask requirement, which also partially applies outdoors.
• In public transport
• On the way to the beach in our surf school cars
• In the interiors of restaurants or shops
• In all public areas, such as the police station, municipal administration or hotel reception
• At the moment also outdoors in built-up areas, for example in pedestrian zones like the one in Morro Jable.
However, there is already a debate about loosening this rule and only applying it if a minimum distance of 2 meters cannot be maintained outdoors. The rule will probably be adjusted before summer.

Is there a curfew in Fuerteventura?

No!
The curfew was abolished nationwide in early May and there are no more night curfews in all of Spain.

However, this does not mean that discos are open here in Fueteventura or that celebrations at night or parties are allowed. There are still regulations on the maximum group size at private meetings, which are also controlled by the police.

Conclusion

The German travel warning and that of other European countries for Fuerteventura has been lifted. Thanks to the low numbers of new infections with the corona virus, the regulations for distance and hygiene have been relaxed here in Fuerteventura and you can probably move much more freely than at the moment in other European countries.
