As a surfer and father I would like to write a little bit about surf lessons and of course our surf lessons for kids.
I have two children myself and as a surfing enthusiast I hope since birth that I can surf with them at some point. The enthusiasm of the two for the waves and the sea has always been there. Slowly, the interest in the sport, because of dad always disappears in the morning.
Kids surfing in Fuerteventura
My children are now 4 and 6 years old. One year ago we started the first real surf tests on the east coast in small white water waves in knee-deep water.
It was late summer, very warm and I got two extra small children's suits. A 6 foot softboard (which I actually use partly even in powerless summer wind waves) and an old boogie board were perfect beginner surfboards for the two.
For my children this afternoon was a real adventure and of course a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the surfing interest of my children is not as pronounced as with me and to wake it up, I try not to ask the children too often for common surfing afternoons. I'm afraid that at some point they will say no with a la "Dad you annoy" in spite of.
We could go surfing almost every day. The great thing about Fuerteventura are the many different beaches where there are big, but also many small waves.
For children, waves are enough that we adults wouldn't even push on our stomach. Thanks to the buoyancy of the soft soft boards, these waves carry children gently over many meters.
The small bays and white beaches of the east coast and south coast are ideal for this kind of children's surf courses :)
Our children's surf course
In our children's surf courses we drive to beaches with small waves. There are many of these beaches in the south of Fuerteventura.
There are many beaches in Fuerteventura's coasts that point in different directions and therefore have different waves in different weather conditions - larger waves for the big surfers and small waves for the little surfers.
Of course, children get small, child-friendly wetsuits with long arms and legs in our surf courses. These protect not only against cold but also from the sun. The surfboards are covered with soft foam so that you cannot bump into each other.
In children under 12, an extra caregiver will come to the beach to help the children carry their surfboards and push them into the waves.
Our conclusion
Thanks to the many different beaches, there are also beaches with small waves on Fuerteventura, even on days with a lot of wind or big waves. For kids, these little waves are ideal. In our surf courses, we attach great importance to safety, fun and individual and personal care. Of course there is child-friendly surf material!
