Hello surf community,
"April, April, he does what he wants with the weather." A saying from the German-speaking area is something like this to describe what weather you can adjust to in Central Europe in April.
For us surfers it is of course more interesting what April does with the waves and of course not in Central Europe but for example here on Fuerteventura.
That is why I am now opening another chapter in our 12-part series on weather and waves in certain seasons on Fuerteventura.
The weather in April in Fuerteventura
In contrast to the weather in Central Europe, the April weather in Fuerteventura does not offer so many surprises.
In a nutshell:
It's warm. The weather in April is actually like the weather in summer in Germany. The air temperature is over 25 degrees. The water is almost 20 degrees. On windless days it feels much warmer. Warning the spring sun on Fuerteventura is very strong. Even if the temperatures are not as high as in summer or autumn, you burn yourself faster in spring than in October and November. Therefore, you should always pay attention to good sun protection, especially on the face.
Central European weather changes from winter to summer during this time of year. There is still no stable high above Eastern Europe and there are still strong low pressure areas that cross the Atlantic to Central Europe. In between, air can reach Europe from the north and south. That is why the weather in April is so volatile.
The waves in April in Fuerteventura
But wait - back to the low pressure areas over the Atlantic, because we surfers are always interested.
Especially when it comes to the waves in Fuerteventura in April. These low pressure areas can still generate many of the waves in April, which makes winter on Fuerteventura one of the most popular travel destinations for many surfers.
This means that each of our surfing beaches can have very good waves and you can surf on all the coasts of the island.
As already indicated in the saying, the "when" is hard to predict, so when which beach will have good waves can be predicted just as reliably as the European weather in April.
However, one thing can be said: There will be good waves!
My conclusion
In contrast to April in Central Europe, April in Fuerteventura is a thoroughly reliable vacation and surf month. The weather can be described as summery without exaggeration.
There can be good waves for surfing in all facets, clean small waves on the west coast are possible as well as strong ground waves on our house beach or wind waves at the many points on the east coast.
