Surfing in the south of Fuerteventura

The north of Fuerteventura is very popular with surfers. Many surfers don't even know that there are good waves for surfing in the south of Fuerteventura.

Hello surfer,

The good news is increasing, life is becoming more and more normal everywhere and the “new normal” is increasingly becoming what we called normal a year and a half ago.
Here in Fuerteventura, too, we have come a lot closer to what used to be "normal". We are receiving more inquiries again and slowly we are expanding our team for the coming summer and autumn with more surf instructors and trainees.

Now that more surfers or prospective surfers are planning a trip to Fuerteventura again, they are slowly shifting the questions of our guests from Corona-specific topics to the questions of everyday surfing.

A classic question from many surfers is always:
Is it even possible to surf in the south of Fuerteventura?

The south of Fuerteventura is underestimated by many surfers

Of course you can surf in the south of Fuerteventura as well as in the north of the island. The north of Fuerteventura is best known for its reefs where advanced surfers surf the powerful waves in autumn and winter.

For surfers who have just started surfing or are surfing their first green waves, it does not matter whether you surf in the north or south of the island.
Waves that are created by low pressure areas many thousands of kilometers out on the Atlantic do not break differently on an island that is just 98 kilometers long.

The south of Fuerteventura even has a small advantage that it is not so well known among surfers. The beaches here are often emptier than in other parts of the island.

Especially in summer, the beach with the shipwreck and our house beach Jandia are two insider tips

In addition, there are two beaches in the south of Fuerteventura to which there is no comparable beach thanks to the geographical orientation in the north of the island.

Especially in summer, these two beaches are an insider tip among surfers. The first beach is the beach that was previously known for the wreck of the sunken "American Star". The mountains in the background and the long cliff at the northern end are responsible for the fact that the otherwise strong trade winds often blow offshore here in summer and the waves break much cleaner than other comparable beaches on the west coast.

On the beach of Jandia in the very south of Fuerteventura, waves don't break every day in summer, but here in summer waves can break as clean as they usually only in autumn and winter.
The reason for this? Waves that run from the southern hemisphere to the North Atlantic, because in Europe summer is winter in the southern hemisphere and there are such big winter storms in the South Atlantic that their waves reach the Canary Islands.

Conclusion

The south of Fuerteventura is not so well known among surfers and that's a good thing. The surfers in the south of the island owe it to this fact that they can often surf alone. In addition, there are beaches in the south of the island that can have good waves, especially in summer.
