December is not a month that immediately evokes associations with the beach, sun or surfing. On the contrary, when it comes to the month of December, one thinks of Christmas markets, cozy blankets, candlelight, tea and the propane gas heater that are now allowed again.
Well in times of Corona, things like Christmas markets are even more unimaginable than going to the beach in December.
If there will be Christmas markets this year, they will have little to do with the Christmas markets of recent years.
In contrast, comparatively little has changed when visiting the beach in Fuerteventura in December. On the drive to the beach, the participants of our surf courses and surf camps have to wear a mask, on the beach itself we can give surf courses as we used to.
The waves and the weather in December
I think I've already written a little about the weather and the waves in Fuerteventura's autumn and winter in this blog.

The weather in December can still be warm and summery. In the evening you need a light jacket or a thick sweater. During the day, shorts, T-shirts and flip flops are enough. The daytime temperature is always around 20 to 25 degrees. In the sun, however, it feels a lot warmer. With statistical 5 rainy days a year, the sun almost always shines on Fuerteventura.
The water is also still comparatively warm at almost 20 degrees. A simple 3/2 strength wetsuit is sufficient for surfing. Usually even a shorty is enough. On windless days in December, I often only go surfing in board shorts.
As already mentioned, I have already written a lot about the waves and justifiably only positive. In December it pays off that we are the surf school with the most different beaches visited. Because in December we get strong ground swells from the Atlantic that bring our beach on the south coast to life as well as small clean wind waves for the east coast and calm days with clean waves on the west coast.
Travel tip in December? The weeks before Christmas
Of course there are also many holidays in December. Christmas and New Year's Eve in many countries is the feast of the Three Kings and, in early December, Nicholas.
At the end of December in particular, many people are on vacation and quite a few are planning to spend their vacation in the sun rather than at home. That is why the week over New Year's Eve in Fuerteventura is like a short high season.
