Transport your own surfboard to Fuerteventura

There are a few things to consider when transporting surfboards on planes
The surfboard has arrived safely, now it's off to the waves

For every surfer, their own surfboard is almost as important as a loved family member. Accordingly, surfboards are packed carefully for flights. Here are a few tips for transporting your own surfboard by plane.

Surfboards are probably one of the most sensitive sports equipment there is. A snowboard or bike can withstand a few bumps. With light and thinly glazed shortboards you can see every little bump and after a short time even footprints on the deck.

You can say surfboards are the musical instruments among sports equipment.

We surfers are sensitive creatures and a bump in our beloved surfboard almost hurts more than if you had gotten the blow yourself. How many times have I observed surfers who searched their board for dents after a violent wipe out before checking their own heads for wounds.

Accordingly, transporting your own surfboard by plane is nerve-wracking for many surfers.

The right boardbag

A proper boardbag is essential for transporting a surfboard. You should make it a habit to only take the surfboard out of the boardbag for surfing, so you protect the board from bumps and excessive UV radiation even on the beach.

When buying the boardbag you should make sure that it is not too thin. Each layer of padding increases the protection of the surfboard.

With the size of the boardbag you can easily take a bag that is a bit too big for your own board. So you have even more volume and pad the board a little bit more. If you need a sleeping bag on the trip, this is a good option, because you have your bed with you, because the boardbag is a great sleeping pad.
Otherwise, bubble wrap is recommended, which is available in every hardware store.

When packing a surfboard, you should always make sure that the boardbag is not too heavy at the end. The loaders at the airport are rarely surfers and for most - heavy is stable - light is fragile.

Our surfboard rental

In addition to the correct packaging of the board and the risk that the board will still get dents, another variant is the additional price for taking a surfboard with you.

Each airline charges different fees here. Unfortunately, these fees are often so high that it is cheaper to rent a surfboard in Fuerteventura.

We offer a selection of different surfboards:
Longboards (9'2 "and 10'6"), Malibus (8'2 ", 7'10" and 7'6 "), Minimalibus (7'2"), Fishboards (6'4 ") and Shortboards (6 '6 ") from NSP and shortboards from Surftech / Tuflite in 6'4" (Byrne), 6'2 "(Webber), 6'1" (Santa Cruz).

Conclusion

Every surfer wants to surf with his own board. It is important to pack the board well during transport. If the airline's transport costs are too high, it is worth thinking about renting a surfboard on site.
