Wild camping at the surf spot in Fuerteventura

Wake up at the surf spot while camping wild in Fuerteventura

Can you camp wildly on the beach in Fuerteventura? If so, which beaches are best for this?

Camping wildly at the surf spot, being awakened by the sound of the sea, just a few steps to the waves - for many surfers this is the epitome of surfing and freedom.

The first surfers on the legendary Hawaiian North Shore were wild campers on the beach. At that time there were no accommodations on Hawaii's wild north coast. In order to be really close to the waves, the surf pioneers of Hawaii camped directly on the beach. Later they simply built wooden huts. Today there are houses from surf locals, professional surfers like Kelly Slater or John John Florence or surf companies like Volcom.

Back to camping on the beach ...
There are many campsites in France, not a few of which are directly behind the dunes. So you camp almost directly on the beach and the waves.

There are no campsites in Fuerteventura

There are no official campsites in Fuerteventura like in France, for example. There are places where tents are allowed. At these points, however, there is no infrastructure such as public toilets, sinks or the like.

These places where camping is allowed are indicated by signs and are also at places where there are waves. These places are primarily intended for campers.
For reasons of nature conservation, it has not been allowed in Fuerteventura for some time to simply stand and stay "anywhere" with the motorhome.

So if you want to camp in Fuerteventura, you have to prepare to take everything with you - especially drinking water!

With rental car or without camping?

If you really only travel with a tent and don't have a rental car, there is practically no space for tents and campers that are close to towns. This means that you have to carry everything including the drinking water in your backpack for a longer period of time.

The advantage of these trips is that you can also walk in remote areas where there may not even be the possibility to park by car and you are completely alone on the beach and the waves.

Where there are no cars, of course nobody comes to check whether you are sleeping on officially marked parking spaces.
So you can really camp here wildly!

These places are still in Fuerteventura, so that it should stay that way everyone should discover these places for themselves in the future;)

If you have a rental car, it is easier to transport food, drink and tent equipment. Here it is advisable to set up the tent only where it is permitted. There are employees of the Canary Islands Environmental Protection Agency who check almost every day in the main season whether you are also in the designated zone.

In Cofete you can camp almost directly on the beach next to the parking lot and sleep here on one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe!

Conclusion

You can camp wild in Fuerteventura, but you should only do this in places where no off-road vehicle really comes. Of course, wild camping is not allowed here, but it is quite unlikely that a check will come. Advantage: You really sleep alone on a beach or surf spot like Robinson Crusoe - Disadvantage: You really have to transport all of the equipment and food yourself on your back.
Where these positions are, everyone must discover for themselves so that there are still such positions;)
