Surf Camp over 30 on Fuerteventura
Aloha, I'm Christof. I grew up in Berlin in the 80s, have been surfing since I was 20 and have been living on Fuerteventura since 2007. As a surf instructor, I have taught many guests over 30 in beginner and advanced surf courses.
Here at OTRO MODO Surfcamp and in our Surf Villa we have many guests who are 30+.
Remember the saying: "Never trust anyone over 30"?
When I tried to differentiate myself from older people with this saying, people over 30 seemed like retirees to me. I could hardly create a picture of myself in my head of what I would be like when I was over 30. My feeling was that I would probably have little fun in life when I was 30+. Life would only consist of everyday work and then relaxing on the sofa. What absolute rubbish!
Now I've been over 30 for some time and none of my fears at the time have come true. On the contrary, the sometimes dogged view of the time after one's own youth seems almost narrow-minded to me. Yet young people in particular are thought to have a high level of tolerance.
Life really gets going when you're over 30!
Have you heard the saying: "30 is the new 20"?
I can absolutely confirm that. The older I get, the freer and more flexible I feel. When I look around my circle of friends, I see that many feel the same way.
When you're over 30, most people work more than in the years before. You have less free time, but you get paid better at work. This means you can make more spontaneous and free decisions.
So people over 30 often have less free time, but more freedom. You can experience spare time much more consciously and enjoy moments better.
As a 30+ year old, you still like to have a glass of wine or beer with friends in the evening. If the mood is right, it can spontaneously turn into more. But you now know the point at which a glass of alcohol will make the next day a misery. Whether you go beyond this point or not depends on the situation.
As an over 30 year-old, you are not unsporty. I want to say that most 30-somethings haven't cut down on sports.
As 30+, you often know your own body better than you did when you were 20. You are more ambitious and have fitness goals. But you don't always have to cross the line into total exhaustion.
Sport is not something you do to prove something to other people. Nor is it about adapting your own body to an ideal.
Sport is something that has to feel good. Of course, you do sport to keep your body healthy. But above all, it's also about giving your mind a break. That is also what fascinates most people about surfing.
Meet other surfers over 30 at our surf camp
In our surf camps, in the surf courses and in our Surf Villa, many participants are over 30 years old. In general, I would guess the average age of our surf guests to be around the early 30s.
So here with us in the surf course, surf camp or in the villa, you get to know other nice people who are of a similar age to yourself.
Of course, we all share the same passion for the waves and the sea. Nevertheless, you often share other similarities with people of the same age. Because at similar stages of life, you have often had similar experiences. You've finished your education, you're in full professional life, you're starting to build a career, you're thinking about family planning, and so on.
This way, you will find many things in common with people of the same age, even beyond surfing, and you will often make nice contacts, many of which will become friendships.
At 30+ you're not too old to learn to surf
A surf course for surfers over 30 is not different to a surf course for younger participants. There is no reason for that anyway.
Our 30+ surf courses are simply structured. There are theoretical explanations and practical exercises on land, which are then put into practice in the water with the surf instructor. Since we place a lot of value on small groups, our surf instructor always has enough time for individual feedback.
For all those interested, we also organise an additional surf theory evening once a week in our office in Morro Jable. Here we have enough time to discuss all the theoretical aspects of surfing, such as the tides or wave formation and forecasts. This also leaves more time on the beach and in the water for practical sessions!
Of course, there are also quite a few surfers over 30 who have been surfing for a while. Many have already taken one or more surfing courses. Quite a few are experienced surfers and just need someone to explain the surf spots to them.
We therefore offer different courses for advanced surfers. For example, courses for advanced beginners who want to make the step from take-off in white water to green wave surfing.
But also for surfers who already surf green waves and want to work on their surfing technique with an experienced surf guide, we have the right course.
Since we are not a big tour operator, we can personally respond to the wishes of our surf guests. This allows us to adapt the course schedule and content to the needs and learning progress of our surf students every day.
30+ Surf Camps on Fuerteventura
Many surfers over 30 no longer have as much time to travel as they did in their twenties. Most of them have a permanent job and thus, unfortunately, a limited number of holidays per year. On the other hand, the travel budget is usually a bit higher and as a 30+ surfer you also want a bit more comfort to enjoy your holiday properly.
Therefore, we recommend our guests either our cosy apartments in the fishing village of Morro Jable or our beautiful villa in the surfing village of La Pared.
Apartments by the sea in Morro Jable
There are only 12 flats in our family-run apartment house by the sea. Most of the guests in the house are in our surf courses for beginners or advanced surfers. The individual flats are located directly next to each other on two floors. On the large roof terrace there are benches and tables under a cosy pergola and sun loungers to relax on. From here you have a fantastic view of the sandy beach and the turquoise ocean.
After your surf course, you'll quickly find yourself in the company of the other guests at the surf camp. You can eat together, relax on the terrace and conclude the evening with a glass of wine or beer together.
The house is located just 30 metres from the small beach and the beach promenade with many cool bars and restaurants. From here, you can go to the beach with the other surf students after your surf course for swimming, snorkelling, volleyball, SUP and much more.
In the evenings, the short walk to the cosy tapas bars and restaurants is tempting. Often there is also chilled-out live music. If you can't sleep, you can join the other surf camp mates on the beach promenade to neighbouring Jandia, where there are several discos.
Surf Villa for over 30s
If you are searching for peace and want to spend your holiday away from the tourist resorts of Fuerteventura, then our comfortable surf villa in La Pared is just right for you!
The small, charming surf village is located on the wild west coast of Fuerteventura on a beautiful beach.
